Well, I didn’t do any videos while I was away. I did take a few walks, but nothing too strenuous. So I’m back at it now that I’m home and in my daily routine.
Yesterday I did another Yoga with Adriene video: Travel Yoga- Morning Sequence. It felt good to stretch for about 10 minutes.
Verdict: I didn’t love this one as much as the Freedom Flow video. It was mostly sun salutations. It did feel good to get myself back to regularly scheduled work oust, though.
Today I did three videos: Pilates Beginner Reformer Workout with Kathi Ross Nash, Pilates Reformer Lower Body Workout, and Elizabeth’s Studio: Ep4: The Core Has Legs.
Verdict: I likely won’t do any of these videos again. The first one used equipment which I did not have. Also, the instructor kept saying “good girl” to the women demonstrating the workout. It was demeaning and creepy. The second video was just alright. The exercises were fine, but it was only 5 minutes. The audio in the last video was WAY too low. I couldn’t hear anything she was saying.
So the lesson I’ve learned is to stick with loud, high energy videos and I’ll be happy.
Tomorrow I’m headed off to a staff retreat with one of the great publishing companies I work with. I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone in person, learning more about the people I work with, and talking about fascinating and though-provoking ideas. There’s a 3 hour break built into each day, so I’m really going to try to get short workouts in. I may walk on the beach or swim and report out on that, because it’s still workout and it’s good to get away from the screen to find fitness.
Yesterday, I did another GymRa video. I’m obsessed. This 15 Minute Super Easy Butt Workout was really fun and really effective. It was 15 reps of glute-focused moves, which I love after sitting all day!
Verdict: Yes yes and yes. My butt feels great today. I can tell I worked it yesterday.
Today I did Sexy Arms in 7 Moves, another one by GymRa. I need to start packing and make sure I’m ready for my trip. I wanted to balance out the bottom work yesterday. This was ten minutes and 15-30 reps of 7 moves.
Verdicy: Really great in a pinch. Not the arm moves I usually do, so it mixed it up for my muscles. Loved it.
Gotta make this a quick post. I’ve had a bit of a crazy day and I want to be sure to fit in my meditation time before starting my evening routine.
Saturday I skipped workout and ended up working all day. That didn’t feel great, so I did yoga on Sunday.
Day 13 was this Freedom Flow video which was fantastic. If you’re a writer, I highly recommend this series. There are a lot of chest opening movements, which i know I need after being slumped at my desk all day,
Day 14 was this 30 Minute Intermediate Full Body Workout by GymRa. I loved it. I’m still sweating. Just 12 reps of each exercise. Lots of glute-focused work, which I need after a long day of sitting.
Verdict: Both of these videos are keepers. The Freedom Flow video would be great to do every day or at least every other day, especially when deadlines keep me chained to my desk!
I went on vacation with the best intentions of working out with videos on my tablet everyday, but didn’t follow through. It rained a fair amount, so I can’t even claim to have done a lot of walking. Instead, I worked, I ate, and I sat on the balcony and watched the rain and the ocean. It was wonderful and I don’t feel a shred of guilt for getting behind on my workout challenge.
Back in the saddle, today, though. I did A Zumba abs video.
Verdict: I loved it! 4 songs, just about 18 minutes of workout. The moves focused on contracting the abs through dance steps. As always, the instructors were good and the music was great. I think getting back into Zumba will be one thing that really sticks with me after this challenge.
Gotta be quick with these two. I’m heading on a short getaway with my sweetheart tomorrow, so there’s no rest until then!
Yesterday I did Blogilates: The Ultimate Hot Body Workout for Flat Abs, Slim Inner Thighs, Perky Butt, & Toned Arms.
Verdict: What I don’t like about this video is the multiple reputations. I always feel like I’m going to get injured, especially when my form gets bad because I’m so fatigued. So I changed this up to do the work out sequence a few times in a row with few reps of each move. I like the moves, they feel like they’re working, but I had to make it my own so that I didn’t hurt myself
Today I did Blogilates: Pop Pilates, Perfect Legs Workout
Verdict: Far from perfect for me. The first round of moves were uncomfortable and not well explained by the instructor. My hips were hurting too much from very little movement, so I knew I was doing something wrong. I won’t come back to this one.
Yesterday was Day 8! I made it more than a week, which is a great triumph if you know anything about trying to get back on the workout train after falling off for far too long.
For day 8 I did: Pop Pilates for Beginners: Total Body Workout
Verdict: I didn’t love this video. I’m not new to Pilates, so this workout really goes against what I know and love about Pilates, and that is few, targeted reps. In this video, during the leg workout, you do so many reps your muscles completely fatigue. I found myself with bad form on simple moves, which was a red flag for me. I won’t be doing this video again.
For day 9, I went to spinning at the gym
Verdict: So glad to get back to class after a 2 month hiatus. I’ve been going to this spinning class with friends for years and I really love it. It’s on Saturday mornings, so I can get it out of the way and start my weekend off right. Love it!
I used to go to Zumba regularly, but haven’t been to a class in a while. I missed the dancing and the music, so I decided to do a Zumba workout on YouTube for today’s challenge.
I did: Latin Dance Fitness, Beginners 1
Verdict: Loved it! It was 4 songs, 16 minutes, lots of energy. The Instructor didn’t give any verbal cues, which was fine because i knew the moves, but I wouldn’t recommend it for a beginner. I will definitely come back to this one.
